Good Evening House of Skin,
As we are now heading into the gorgeous summer months this is typically the time many of us choose to go on their holidays and vacations.
A lot of destinations that many of us pick are aboard which means travelling via aeroplane.
I want to share the effects that flying can have on our skin with tips throughout the coming months of how to help protect our skin and keep it feeling great! I want to first start with how to protect our skin.
The impact of flying on the skin and the importance of skincare💫
The skin can become dehydrated on an aeroplane due to recirculated air, high pressure, and air conditioning. That’s why it’s imperative that you make sure your skin is adequately hydrated before, during and after the flight. This will ensure the skin barrier does not become compromised. Another big skin concern when sky-high is UV radiation. When you fly at high altitude, you are closer to the ozone layer which puts your skin at greater risk of sun damage. That’s why you should protect it from UV with a broad-spectrum sunscreen and re-apply every few hours if travelling long haul.
Skincare Tips for prepping the skin pre flight 💫
UV protection, hydration and avoiding dryness are the key concerns to think about when flying. As such, ensure your in-flight beauty bag contains a broad-spectrum sunscreen, antioxidant serum to protect it from environmental aggressors, a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum, and a moisturiser.
The Silymarin CF and Oil Shield SPF 50 are my non negotiable products when stepping onto any flight.
Bacteria can thrive in recycled airplane air that is why my antioxidant of choice is the Silymarin. It contains 0.5% of salicylic acid which eliminates any bacteria trying to penetrate and harbour onto the skin.
The Oil Shield SPF 50 is my SPF of choice because many of us can suffer from an oily T-Zone when we fly and this can be form many reasons for example, the skin becoming dehydrated or the humidity and heat. The Oil Shield contains Silica Silicate which will absorb any excess sebum and will have a blurring effect on the skin.
Together using a powerful antioxidant and Sunscreen we can insure that we are keeping our skin protected from all forms of extreme external aggressors.
I would love to hear from you all on the different ways air travel has impacted your skin?
Have a wonderful weekend.
May💫
